The Amiens labyrinth, in the palm of your hand.

In 1288 the builders of Amiens Cathedral set a labyrinth into the floor of the nave: an octagon of black and white stone with a single path that folds back and forth through eleven circuits before it reaches the centre. Like its famous sister at Chartres, it was walked slowly, step by step - a pilgrimage in miniature.

This little octagon carries the same path, carved into solid wood. We engrave it in many thin layers with a laser, so the walls stand up in relief and the path is a real groove. Trace it with a fingertip from the entrance to the centre and back - it takes a minute or two, and it is surprisingly hard to do in a hurry.

Choose your wood
- Cherry - warm and reddish, deepening with time
- Walnut - darker brown
- Olive - golden, with lively grain
- Beech - light and fine-grained, the path reads very crisply
Grain and colour vary from piece to piece.

Size
58 x 58 mm octagon, approx. 5 mm thick.

On your altar or desk
Use it as a finger labyrinth, a centrepiece on an altar or meditation table, or simply a small piece of Gothic art. It pairs well with our Chartres rose window carving.

Designed and made in the Aplicum workshop.
