A Gothic rose window you can hold in your hand.
The rose windows of Chartres Cathedral, built in the 13th century, are among the most admired works of medieval sacred geometry: circles inside circles, petals and rings arranged around a single centre, all drawn with compass and straightedge. This little rosette takes that layout - the central oculus, the rings of circles and petal openings, the decorated outer border - and carves it into solid wood.
How it is made
We draw the design ourselves and engrave it into the wood in many thin layers with a laser. The result is a real relief: deep openings, raised tracery and gently curved edges that catch the light. Every disc is cut from solid wood, so grain and colour make each piece a little different.
Choose your wood
- Cherry - warm and light, with a reddish tone that deepens with time
- Walnut - darker brown with grey tones
- Light wood - pale, almost white, the pattern reads very crisply
Size
65 mm in diameter, approx. 5 mm thick.
On your altar or shelf
Many people use it as a centrepiece on an altar or meditation table, as a base for a candle or a crystal, or simply as a small piece of Gothic art on a desk or bookshelf. It also pairs well with our Chartres labyrinth pieces.
